After very successful trials the West Midlands Fire Service have taken delivery of the first microdrone md4-200 to be used by the UK Fire Services.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Vij Randeniya (photo left) said: “we are delighted to be part of this technological first for the UK fire services. I believe that this product, now branded as ISIS (Incident Support Imaging System) will provide Incident Commanders with critical real time visual information. This will assist the quality of the decision making, thereby increasing firefighter an public safety. We see numerous applications, limited only by imagination”.

The drone which is effectively an helicopter can produce live video, stills in HD as well as thermal imaging and will be deployed at fires and other emergency incidents. A specialist team of West Midlands personnel have undergone a comprehensive training programme using simulators and real time practice flights.

ISIS is due to go live at the end of October 2007. Many other emergency services have already expressed interest in securing this valuable technology.

With an ongoing research and development programme, microdrone GmbH are set to supply the emergency services with cutting edge technology which will enhance service delivery.

West Midlands Fire Service is the second largest fire service in England and Wales with over 2500 staff. With 40 fire stations and 62 front line fire engines.

It serves a population of 2,500,000.
