FORMAP : A FAST PHOTOGRAMMETRY SOFTWARE FOR DIRECT GEOREFERENCING UAV SYSTEMS
Drone mapping systems, like the mdMapper1000DG aaS, deliver direct georeferenced images that can be used to create highly accurate and versatile photogrammetric deliverables. The main advantage of using Direct Georeferencing is to achieve high levels of data accuracy without using ground control points.
In post processing, commercial digital photogrammetry solutions extract the direct georeferenced data from the image and provide very accurate measurements for position (latitude, longitude, altitude) and attitude (roll, pitch, heading.) However, traditional post processing software can take a significant amount of time to create the final photogrammetric deliverable. The main goal of FORMap is to create fast photogrammetry software that processes imagery survey data in quasi real-time.
In this web paper mdInfinity will present the findings and results for:
- The FORMap Software
- Input/Output of data
- Processing
- Experimental results
- The evaluation procedure
- Conclusion
This web paper explains how FORMap implements a rapid and comprehensive photogrammetric workflow to quickly transform images and navigation data in an orthomosaic and a dense point cloud. The main feature of FORMap is a fast response time (2-4 sec/image) to produce results in a few minutes after drone landing.
When using other commercial solutions, it can take up to 2 or 3 hours to create an orthophoto & DSM. FORMap can reduce that time to 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the data, to provide results much faster. Hence, FORM is short for Fast Othomosaic Mapping.
