Microdrones UAS Could Help Save Lives from Deadly Tsunamis

We’ve all gaped in horror at the news footage of destruction and death waged by tsunamis in the South China Sea and Indian Ocean. Millions of people have lost their lives in these regions due to tsunamis. In 2004, one tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed 230,000 people.

With proper warning, these lives can be saved and Microdrones technology is helping to ensure that happens. We’re proud to announce The South China Sea Tsunami Warning Center now collects data by deploying a Microdrones md4-1000 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

The Microdrones md4-1000 has been deployed for maritime missions ranging from marine supervision, monitoring of marine environments, and island/coastline survey operations. The md4-1000 is also the most widely used UAS on the Chinese mainland.

This latest application for The South China Sea Tsunami Warning Centeradds to a growing list of maritime institutions that have invested in the Microdrones UAS platform. This list includes:

  • The National Ocean Technology Center,
  • The Third Oceanographic Institute of the State Oceanic Administration,
  • The Hainan Marine Fishery Environment Monitoring and Forecast Center,
  • The Guangzhou Marine Fishery Environment Monitoring and Forecast Center,
  • The State Oceanic Administration of the South China Sea
  • Research Institute of Engineering and Environmental Exploration,
  • The South China Sea Engineering Investigation Center,
  • The Fujian Oceanic Institute

The md4-1000 has built a strong reputation in the professional UAS market, largely because of its German-engineered four-rotor system, lightweight carbon fiber body, and industry-leading flight endurance. Operators enjoy simplicity, reliability, stability and payload flexibility – characteristics that are much appreciated when operating a UAS over the ocean.

We recently received outstanding feedback on md4-1000 from Aircam Aviation Technology, who worked with the Zhejiang municipal government to implement a series of island expeditions and remote sensing survey projects. Onsite experts running these complex missions told us they were impressed by the performance and adaptability of the Microdrones platform.

UASs are making it possible to accomplish all sorts of once-impossible applications, from minor tasks to life-saving feats. Whether saving the lives of baby deer, allowing surveyors to safely inspect dangerous structures, or helping to collect tsunami data, Microdrones is honored to play a role in developing technology that helps save lives.

“The Microdrones team is proud to be involved in preventing loss of life in regions at risk of deadly tsunamis,” remarked Sven Juerss, Microdrones Business Development Manager. “We live in an amazing age. Technology is making things possible that our ancestors never would have believed were possible. The application possibilities for drones are endless and we love helping organizations make their visions a reality.”
