AfricaGEO Conference & Exhibition - Two valuable presentations

Should you find yourself in Johannesburg, South Africa September 17th and 18th, then be sure to visit the AfricaGEO Conference & Exhibition at the Emperor’s Palace Convention Center. Our very own Director of mdSolutions, Dr. Mohamed Mostafa, will be featured in 2 presentations.

AfricaGEO brings together geomatics industry professionals from across the world, providing a platform to share the latest developments in the industry of surveying and geo-information.

On Day 1, Dr. Mostafa will host an approximate half hour discussion on Geometric Accuracy Assessment of Unmanned Digital Cameras and LiDAR Payloads. Over the last few years, a number of sophisticated multi-sensor systems have been integrated onboard Unmanned Aerial platforms. Dr. Mostafa will discuss a number of parameters that either individually or collectively affect the quality and accuracy when using a metric camera or a LiDAR payload onboard a drone.

For Day 2, he will lead a workshop on Precision Airborne Mapping using Unmanned Integrated LiDAR/Imaging Systems. Professional Grade LiDAR systems are currently being used onboard unmanned aerial systems for high precision mapping applications. This 2-hr workshop is intended for the unmanned airborne LiDAR user community including mapping professionals, land surveyors, managers, and decision makers to understand the underlying concepts of LiDAR from the technical and business perspective in the form of theory and practice using real data sets from around the world. The following will be covered –

• LiDAR and Camera Systems – The Concepts

• Georeferencing using GNSS /Inertial – The Concepts

• Mapping Frames of Reference – The Concepts

• Mapping Products and Accuracy Implications

• Quality Control and Best Practices

Onsite registration and payment will open 16 September 2018. See more details at the following link:  https://africageo.org.za/registration/

Dr. Mostafa has a Ph.D. in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary and more than 18 years of experience in system design, development, integration, calibration, and quality control. He has managed and delivered projects in the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East and has contributed to more than 160 technical publications, including the Manual of Photogrammetry 5th edition and the DEM User Manual. He served as Vice President of Commission 1 (sensors and platforms) for the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and as the Chair of the Direct Georeferencing Committee of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). Currently he serves as the Chair of the ASPRS Precision Mapping by UAS Committee. He won 11 international awards over the last 26 years.
