Top Level Performance: Advanced UAV Technology

Day after day microdrone specialists develop innovations in order to perfect the professional use of drones and to make the UAV flight a safe and reliable experience – whether for science and research, police and fire services, or industry. We develop exactly the right technology for your project. Do not hesitate to contact us!

The proven technology of the mdBlackBox allows access to all flight data. Each microdrone has this flight data recorder on board, storing over 100 different values and  status information up to 125 times per second on an internal micro SD card. With a data volume of up to 32 KB per second, many flight hours can be documented on a single micro SD card. In case of operator error or vehicle malfunction this data helps provide a complete analysis of the incident.

Often such incidents can be prevented using flight data analysis, as the issue can be corrected instantly. Moreover, this statistical input helps to optimise your missions, or even to make them more efficient. The data recorded can also be used in many different ways for various forms of de-briefing. A good example of this is the geo-referencing of images and of other sensor data.

The new »mdFlexControl« SDK guarantees a high level of flexibility for both the user and the product itself. Is a function missing? No problem: microdrones allows you to introduce new functions to your microdrone, either together with us or fully independently. With our new mdFlexControl SDK interface you can quickly integrate your own sensors and actuators. All important data are easily accessible: battery voltage, flight time, location, height, speed, GPS position and much more.

The mdFlexControl hardware was conceived to fulfill all requirements for connecting up one’s own hardware, thereby providing multi-task support. Applications are performed as distinct tasks, with all tasks carrying the same priority, with scheduling managed by the operator. mdFlexControl applications are in C (C99 standard) programming language.

mdFlexControl is currently under development.

mdRFID is the wireless key for your microdrone, safeguarding your system against unauthorised access. Only users with a valid mdRFID-Key are in a position to engage the start sequence in your microdrone.

mdRFID is also used wird as a wake-up trigger for standby applications such as our  hangar solution. So long as the microdrone is not activated by the mdRFID key, it remains ready for action but in »smart-standby« mode, with power consumption of only 10mA.

The mdSI² extends the »platform concept« of a microdrone. This open interface allows us to provide users with special demands on the microdrone with more potential to create an entirely customized solution. The microdrones System-Integrator-Interface is conceived primarily as a gateway for »intelligent loads«.

With its origins in the government-sponsored AirShield Project, it was designed to take over the control of onboard embedded computer systems  and to manage sensor data in flights involving several microdrones.

The latest mdOS in-house real-time operating system can now flex its muscles freely and connect everything in an intelligently conceived unit. It is based on a sector-leading core with »zero interruption«. This high-performance RTOS has been optimised for minimum RAM and ROM consumption, as well as high speed and versatility.

With mdOS we are once again fuelling our philosophy of placing as much freedom and flexibility as possible in the heart of our products. Meaning, complete control for the good of our customers.

At the core of every microdrone is our mdIMU. This is an integral component of mdFNC, but is now also available as a stand-alone solution. The mdIMU is based on new Six Axis sensor, which features even greater precision and higher temperature resistance. Production tolerances have been minimised. mdIMU provides you with very precise 3D and 360° orientation, allowing you to enhance the positioning capability to your vehicle.

Only 3g in weight, mdIMU is among the lightest and yet most precise, robust and powerful OEM IMU boards on the market. It is perfectly tailored to the requirements of OEMs with full technical support and a high level of flexibility, enabling the addition of optional sensors.

The new »mdfnc« On-Board-Electronics ensure every situation is under control – more precisely than ever before. Microdrones’ own flight and navigation controller mdFNC now boasts even greater processing power. And it is not only the new GPS-based waypoint functions that benefit: the AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System), despite being lighter in weight, now features greater performance.

The mdFNC is based on the latest ARM technology and has a 32-Bit microcontroller, which hosts our pre-emptive real-time operating system. The extended temperature range once again maximises the fields of application.

To carry out automated flights using microdrones waypoint navigation our base station software »mdCockpit« contains a user-friendly flight planning module to prepare and upload waypoint scripts to your microdrone. It is possible to create, change and duplicate entire flight routes in short time.

Creating a new route only costs you a few mouse clicks. All routes can be saved to the hard drive of the ground control notebook and retrieved in just a few seconds. We do also offer to integrate your own mission planning tool or use a tablet version to manage your waypoints on the field. With a corresponding data link you can also interact and change your initially created automatic route literally »on the fly«.

The landing of the microdrone can be triggered via remote control, by waypoint command or due to an emergency state. While the normal descent is unproblematic, the final approach could be critical due to the so called ground effect or by any misjudgment of the operator in terms of descending speed or attitude. This risk is minimized drastically by upgrading your system with mdLA.

Using sonar, the mdLA measures the distance to the ground within the landing approach very precisely. It is therefore possible to adjust the descending speed as well as turning off the engines automatically. With the mdLA it is possible to execute a waypoint mission and land without any intervention of an operator. The specified landing place still has to be even and without considerable obstacles.
