Microdrones Attends the MVCC Drone Festival

The Microdrones World Tour once again landed at the Mohawk Valley Community College for their 2022 Drone Festival.  MVCC’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Club invited the Microdrones Team to an afternoon of amazing interactive drone demos and networking opportunities, including drone soccer,  Microdrones flight demonstrations, flight simulators, and more.

The event highlighted the MVCC Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Degree Program which was also featured in a Microdrones production of Down to Earth. Take a look at a recap of the event in the video below.

During this year’s Drone Festival, attendees were able to chat with members of the Unmanned Aerial Solutions Club, faculty and students while also having the opportunity to speak with other leaders in the drone industry. Judycki said that many of the guests were interested to learn more about MVCC’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems AAS degree program.

“We’ve had a number of individuals stop in at our location here and investigate our wonderful mapping equipment and some of the projects that we’re working on,” said Judycki. “People are surprised and I’ve always said that Mohawk Valley Community College is probably one of the best kept secrets.”

The college is also working with the local community to take advantage of their FABLab or the RPAS drone surveying equipment for local projects. The FABLab is a small-scale workshop comprised of industrial-grade fabrication equipment and electronic tools.

Professor William Judycki and a student perform a demonstration with the md4-1000 from Microdrones.

“Our President, Randall VanWagoner has been investigating something called Social Enterprising,” Judycki explained. “We have all this fantastic technology, like our Microdrones integrated systems, so we invite the public to come in and use our products or we can go help them in the field with our equipment. Randall is really excited about our RPAS program and using the Microdrones system to help local surveyors.”

Attending the event from Microdrones were Bret Burghdurf, Marketing Director, Justin Palmer, Creative Services Manager and Damon Maldonado, Online Marketing Project Manager.

The RPAS program at MVCC is a 2-year degree program that was started in 2015.  According to Professor Judycki, the program is one of only four in the country that allows students to design, build, test, program, fly and apply RPAS technology including systems like the mdMapper1000DG and mdLiDAR1000.

Judycki and his students were featured in a surveying reality series, produced by Microdrones. Titled “Higher Education,” the 3-part series follows Professor Judycki as he teaches his students both in the classroom and out in the field, where you can watch how they gain incredible hands-on experience flying the Microdrones surveying equipment.

The latest 3 episodes of Down to Earth, "Higher Education," are now available on YouTube and mdTV.
